Hay Festival Dhaka
HEADY HAY DAYS
Dhaka has just experienced a breathless three days of celebrating literature from around the world as well as in the home front. From November 14 to November 16 literature enthusiasts and just about anyone interested in the written word were in for a marathon of rare treats. An army of internationally known writers, poets, journalists and artists graced this year's festival along with literary stalwarts from our own land. There were exciting discussions on literary endeavours, the challenges of being internationally accepted, of being published, of revolutionary rumblings provoking writers to take part in political change, of the need for wider translation of our Bengali literature for greater international exposure, the scope of the graphic novel, the power of spiritual writing, the magic of poetry and more. This issue of the Star highlights some of the thought-provoking sessions and views of some of the writers who have made this festival such a vibrant and enlightening event. As the space allotted is limited we will feature other components of this grand occasion in subsequent issues. Hosted by The Bangla Academy and partnered with The British Council, The Hay Festival's major sponsors included The Daily Star (title sponsor) and K&K Tea, among others.
