Star Diary

Star Diary Post-Office Woes The post-office services of Bangladesh are regarded as incompetent nowadays, even though people had enjoyed productive, quick services from post-offices in the past. I should mention the exhausting experience I had to suffer when I went to a post-office in my locality. The officials of the office would not respond to any of my queries. They were unwilling to deign me with a reply. I think the officials have forgotten their commitment to their job. This is the reason why people have shifted loyalties to courier services. I hope that the concerned authorities look into this matter and offer a solution to the problem of inefficiency and disinterest in the post-office. Md Zahidul Islam Zibon Chittagong Model School & College *** A DANGEROUS DRINK My friend boarded on a well-known local bus from Mirpur Road to go to Mohammadpur on a regular working day. As he boarded the bus he took his seat just beside the gate adjacent to the window. There were not many passengers in the bus as it was around noon. As it was a hot day, my friend started feeling extremely thirsty and started sweating profusely. The passenger next to him offered him a drink of water from his bottle. No sooner did he finish drinking, my friend began to feel dizzy and fell unconscious. The passenger who had offered him the drink took all his money and quietly got down at the next stop. At the last stop in Mohammadpur, the bus conductor called my friend and pushed him to wake after receiving no response. He fell down on his face at that. Fortunately, the thief didn't search the pocket where my friend kept his cell phone. His family was contacted and he was rushed to a hospital. A test confirmed that the water he consumed had poisonous chemical that could be fatal for him but fortunately he was safe. However, my friend only regained consciousness after 48 hours and had to be in the ICU for four days. He had to spend more than Tk 10,000 on hospital costs only for a mouthful of water from a stranger. Mashudul Haque Via E-mail
