FADING BEAUTY OF HATIRJHEEL
On Eid day this year, some friends of mine planned to go to Hatirjheel Flyover. As we had only seen images of the place in the media, we thought of checking out the place that looked so beautiful in pictures. However, we were shocked by the scene that welcomed us at Hatirjheel. We could smell the stink coming out of garbage and human wastes from the lake surrounding the flyover. The water of the lake was turning black, as people of the locality indiscriminately threw waste into the lake. We were disgusted by the sight and smell of the place. Moreover, the site lacked security; cars were being driven at high speed increasing the risk of accidents. The Hatirjheel flyover is a beautiful project and the concerned authorities need to be more careful in preserving its beauty and elegance.

KICKED OUT OF HIS OWN COUNTRY
A couple of days ago, I met one of my school teachers, Mr Pranab. The students liked him a lot because he had a unique way of teaching. Bangla grammar always caused a panic amidst us but he made it easy and comprehensible by teaching the rules to us in a simple, jovial manner. He spent all his life dedicated to the profession of teaching with the hopes that the students he taught would contribute positively for the wellbeing of the nation. While reminiscing about my school life with him, he seemed a little in different and lost. It took some persuasion from my side, and finally Pranab Sir, as all his students still call him, told me about his problems. He said that he was planning to leave the country and settle in India. He sorrowfully informed me that as he belongs to a religious minority, his family was being persecuted in many ways in the locality that he live in. Land grabbers had illegally occupied many of his ancestral lands, not even leaving the family graveyard. He sought help from different high officials and representatives but to no avail. I was shocked. As a student, I felt ashamed that my teacher, who I respected and loved so much, had to undergo such humiliation in his own country that he is being forced to thinking of settling elsewhere. While we are striving to show a positive image to the world, some culprits are taking advantage of the inner political conflicts by putting communal harmony at risk for their personal gains. These culprits have no country or religion, they only know how to create chaos. The government needs to ensure that such people are brought to justice so that no person has to leave his country in fear of oppression by some people.
