No More Hartals
The distress of the people, specially the poor during hartal days, has moved all of us to despair and sympathy for our fellow sufferers. But the hartal callers seem to be oblivious to the sufferings of people. The media is prompt to telecast news on the misery afflicted on people during hartal days. Despite knowing all this, our political leaders, from both the government as well as the opposition, don't want to give in to the pressures of banning this culture of calling hartals. I think that hartals should be banned and a party wanting to impose a hartal should explain their reasons logically, ensuring that their motives for the strike surround the actual wellbeing of the general public. They should also ensure the security of people, ensuring that the work and livelihood of thousands is not hampered by their hartal. The unfortunate thing is that no government has till now made an effort to formulate a law against hartals, even though they always ask the opposition party to stop this practice. The sad fact is that the government too wants to make sure that they can call hartals and disrupt daily lives when they are in the opposition. It's beyond saying that hartal annihilates our economy and harms our daily lives. Please don't call hartal for the sake of our country.

An Unwanted Nuisance
Most of the cable operators of our country run a particular channel (known as C.D channel), besides other domestic and foreign channels, where they broadcast selected movies, dramas and music. As they broadcast newly released movies much earlier than other commercial channels, they have earned a great popularity amongst viewers. At the same time, local traders and small enterprises have gotten a lucrative opportunity to advertise their products and services. But there are no defined guidelines in telecasting these advertisements. Most of the time, advertisements of medicines helping with sexual problems are promoted so blatantly on these channels that they create an awkward atmosphere. As a result, viewers are often faced with an unwanted situation especially when they are watching the channel with their family. These kind of untoward advertisements don't only create complicated situations but also send negative message to teens and adolescents. We admit that it is important to make the upcoming generation conscious about sex and health but definitely not in a promiscuous way since it is a sensitive matter.
