Star Diary
A Waste of Time
Recently, some colleagues and I paid a visit to Nuhash Polli, home of renowned late writer Humayun Ahmed. However, we were barred from entering the place, as the guard demanded an entry fee of Tk 200 per person. We were surprised to hear that as we had known that entry was free for all and the public was welcome to enjoy the sights of Humayun Ahmed's house. As the price was too steep, my colleagues and I decided to continue our journey without visiting the house of our favourite writer. We would like to urge the concerned authority to please keep the entry fee at Tk 20 instead of the exorbitant rate of Tk 200, so that people can know and learn more about Humayun Ahmed and his works.

GIVE THEM A CHANCE
My father, vice-chancellor of one of the public universities of Bangladesh, showed me a photo where a physically disabled student, who could not use his hands, was writing on the answer script with his right foot. This photo inspired and motivated me. The examinee proved that anything could be possible with courage and if given the chance to achieve even the impossible. There are many physically disabled people who are showing their valiant nature by waging many battles against all odds to cement their positions in the so called mainstream society. Our Education Ministry can introduce a quota system for allowing students with disabilities to receive further education and earn money on their own for economic stability. We can ease their woes by relaxing some qualification requirements in job sectors as well. Instead of stigmatizing them further, the larger society should go all out to show their support by standing by people with disabilities and allowing them to live a life of dignity.
