Trapped peacock rescued in Kurigram
A peacock was rescued in injured condition by the upazila administration and the Forest Department in Kurigram’s Ulipur upazila today.
The bird was recovered around noon from a house in the Deldarganj Bazar area of Buraburi union, an area surrounded by the Brahmaputra River.
Upazila Assistant Commissioner (Land) SM Mehedi Hasan led the rescue drive.
Local residents said they first spotted the peacock near a maize field in Deldarganj yesterday afternoon. The bird had become trapped in a net used in the field and sustained injuries. Later, a local resident, Saddam Hossain, rescued the peacock and kept it at his house.
According to locals, the peacock weighs approximately four kg.
Upazila Forest Officer Fazlul Haque said the bird sustained injuries to its left leg and was given first aid. “It is currently out of danger,” he added.
AC (Land) Mehedi said the peacock was handed over to the Rangpur Forest Division for advanced treatment and safe conservation.
