all the delegates for their constructive resolution.

A rainy, cold and lazy Saturday morning is obviously ideal for enjoying movies with some spicy pop corn or hanging out with loved ones at home. But on October 5, Nusrat, a third year student of Dhaka University (DU), was seen dressed in formal attire at the Nawab Ali Choudhury Senate Building of Dhaka University with some other students. There is however a reason why she was brimming with excitement. Nusrat and her friends were waiting for the launching ceremony of Brainwiz MUN conference, an international students' gathering that is arranged simultaneously in three countries: Dhaka (Bangladesh), India (New Delhi) and Berne (Switzerland). United Nations Youth and Students Association of Bangladesh organized this conference in Dhaka.

Md Mamun Mia, Md Mamun Mia, Director General of Brainwiz MUN welcome all the delegates.

The Model United Nation (MUN) conference is now considered one of the most effective and dynamic way for students to gather knowledge and develop their skills. It is an academic simulation of the United Nations that aims to enlighten participants about current events, pressing issues in international relations, diplomacy and the United Nations Agenda. The students play the role of diplomats of different countries, discuss, debate and negotiate and finally submit a resolution that is accepted by all the participants.

The World Within The rather staid but spontaneous MUN conference always give students a chance to get the taste of competition in a smarter, more innovative way. After fixing the country matrices, the delegates were split into three committees, the SOCHUM (UN Social Cultural and Humanitarian Committee), the CDP (Committee for Development Policy) and International Press. The smart and serious looking delegates were ready to raise their points on prevention of child trafficking, reduction of carbon emission, ensuring human rights for the disabled, rehabilitation of climate change refugees and setting a universally acceptable development policy for the least developed countries. The press representatives too were ready to bombard the delegates with questions. On October 5 and 6, Nusrat and her friends were not mere students; they became real diplomats. The way the delegate of China ridiculed his US counterpart for the latter's inertia on Kyoto Protocol was quite amusing but the diatribe was strictly diplomatic in nature. Then again, it was unusual for the delegate of Iran to agree with the delegate of Israel on certain issues for the sake of global peace. In this simulated world the youths have eradicated the political obstacles to achieve sustainable peace. So it's not hard to expect from these dynamic youth that in the near future they will come forward to build a better Bangladesh. Message from the Mentors While talking on global issues, the delegates got the opportunity to share their views with the scholars. Many renowned scholars adorned the conference with their presence and guidance. Renowned experts like Dr Mahbuba Nasreen, Dr Muhammad Helal, and Dr Sadeka Halim shared their vast knowledge on the conference agenda with the delegates. While the delegates were discussing countrywide problems, the scholarly lectures from these academicians helped them to formulate a universally acceptable and sustainable solution. The “Diplomatic” Delights The two-day-long conference on UN agenda might have been tiring but partying in the evening helped to recharge their spirit for the next day. On the first day, the gala cultural show that was followed by the inaugural ceremony brought the diplomats to the dance floor. You alt here The resolution is passed by all the delegates. At the end of the conference, the delegates have come out with a universally accepted resolution to ensure sustainable development. With their outstanding skill and knowledge, Nusrat and her friends are expected to do a lot of things for our country. We earnestly hope that with this skilled generation at hand our future will not be as bleak as it seems now. The writer can be contacted at shahnawaz.khan@thedailystar.net
