Premier League Transfer Window Speculations 2014

Silly Season is finally upon us again as the January Transfer Window opens. The 2013-2014 season all across Europe has brought many surprises. A lot of ups and downs. With the transfer window now open many clubs will look to strengthen their squads for the remaining half of the season.
MANCHESTER UNITED
What they need: A top-class, creative midfielder.
Why: Ever since Paul Scholes retired the first time in 2011, Manchester United have needed a midfielder in the same mould to replace him. They were looking for the same player this summer as well and brought in Maroune Fellaini who has been largely uninspiring so far this season.
Who: Besides the obvious rumours that seem to creep up every window like Wesley Sneijder to United, the club is linked to a good number of creative midfielders this transfer window.
- Ilkay Gundogan (Borussia Dortmund)
- Freddy Guarin (Inter Milan)
- Koke (Atheltico Madrid)
- Arda Turan (Galatasaray)
- Adam Lallana (Southampton)
- Ross Barkely (Everton)
- Marco Reus (Borussia Dortmund)
Honestly, I can't see Gundogan or Reus moving from Dortmund. Especially Reus since he has come out and said that he doesn't see himself moving any time soon. Which is a shame since Reus is the sort of player that has been missing from the Red Devils' ranks this season.
Apart from the midfield, Manchester United need some creativity in attack since it looks like Robin van Persie is in one those slumps that affected him back at Arsenal after missing a lot of games due to injuries.
Ideally, Moyes will need to look into making major changes with five to six players coming in and an equal number of players heading out; the Winter Transfer Window just isn't the right window to do that. It still remains to be seen whether or not United will be able to get their midfielder in January but I expect them to try their hardest to get it done.
ARSENAL
What they need: A striker. That's about it.
Why: Arsenal are at the top right now and there's little, if any, areas for them to improve on if you see their current team. Their forwards are performing, but they do lack some depth up front. Arsenal will buy a striker in summer anyway so should they just get it out of the way and get a prolific goal scorer for the second half of the season?
Provided Arsene Wenger can buy the preferred striker this window, much can go wrong. If he clicks instantly it'll make a vital difference in the title race. If he doesn't, he should be settled in by August for the beginning of the next season.
Wenger is notorious for being a budget spender in the transfer window. His stubbornness has cost Arsenal in the past, but this past window he dished out to bring Mesut Ozil. I don't expect Arsenal to “overspend” again, but I think if it comes to that and it can help Arsenal win the league, Wenger will be prepared to cash in.
Who:
- Diego Costa (Athletico Madrid)
- Karim Benzema (Real Madrid)
- Alexandre Pato (Corinthians)
- Pedro (Barcelona)
- Dimitar Berbatov (Fulham)
- Alvaro Morata (Real Madrid)
LIVERPOOL
What they need: A young leftback
Why: At the moment the only experienced, natural leftback Liverpool have at their disposal in Jose Enrique, who has been suffering from injury problems of late.
Who:
- Ryan Bertrand (Chelsea)
- Martin Montoya (Barcelona)
Despite recent performances, Liverpool aren't really crying out for reinforcement. The team is basically balanced except for the leftback department, which will probably be fixed this window. One of the players that has been on Liverpool's radar for a quite some time now is Will Hughes. The club really doesn't need any more midfielders but Brendan Rodgers has been keeping an eye on Hughes and it's looking likely that he will be joining Liverpool.
CHELSEA
What they need: A striker that can actually score goals.
Why: Chelsea have four first team strikers, none of whom score goals regularly. Fernando Torres, Demba Ba, Samuel Eto'o and Andre Schurrle have achieved a total of 16 goals this season. Luis Suarez has that beat by 4 goals himself. Even though it's a glaring problem, Jose Mourinho has said that he doesn't plan to purchase any strikers in the January window but I am sure he will try.
Who:
- Kevin Volland (Hoffenheim)
- Radamel Falcao (Monaco)
- Jackson Martiznez (Porto)
- Diego Costa (Atheltico Madrid)
