Robbery gang busted in Dhaka, 4 including ringleader arrested
Police have arrested four members of a robbery gang including its ringleader from different places in the capital.
The arrestees were identified as the ringleader Khanadakar Ziaur Rahman alias Rafikul Alam alias Moshiur Mishu (39), and his associates Md Foysal (28), Md Al Amin (25), and Md Rana Hossain (25), reports our staff correspondent quoting Sudip Chakrabarty, deputy commissioner (DC) of Gulshan Division Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP).
On July 10, the members of the robbery gang, wearing black masks, entered the residence of Mujibur Rhaman, situated in the capital's Aftrabnagar area around 8:45pm, tied the family members with ropes and then disappeared with stolen valuables.
Victim Mujibur narrated the incident while talking with our correspondent today. "I was really surprised to see that such robbery can take place so easily just after sunset," he said.
As the robbers threatened Mujibur to keep his mouth shut, he did not dare to file any complaints.
But Gulshan Division of DMP learnt about the incident from local sources and urged the victims to file a case in this connection. Finally, the victim registered the case with Badda Police Station on July 12.
A special team of DMP conducted raids at different places in the capital and managed to arrest the four members of the robbery gang including its ringleader yesterday night, said DC Sudip.
As there were no CCTV footage or security guards at the building, police used their sources to find and arrest the criminals and also managed to recover all the looted valuables, the DC said, while addressing reporters at a briefing at Badda Police Station.
DC Sudip said that the arrestees were professional robbers and the ringleader Mishu is an accused in eight cases accusing him of various crimes including robbery, narcotics and fraudulence. Mishu got bail from jail in March and went back to robbery, he said.
"It is one of the fastest operation we conducted, and managed to recover looted valuables and arrest criminals within 48-hours of registering the case," he said.
"We are looking for other associates of the robbery gang and have increased our surveillance so that no such incidents can take place again," he added.
