Why I prefer solitude

One might love to spend their entire day alone, listening to “High Hopes” by Kodaline followed by some other songs. While one might love the thought at first, it might just grow stale after half an hour or so. This is what mainly differentiates a person who loves solitude from one who doesn't.

A melancholic, yet soothing read

Through her poetry anthology 'Elegiac Songs', Eeshita Azad does a wonderful job at describing the several stages of love, loss, joy and grief. The elegies reflect the contemporary style of her writing. The emotions conveyed in her poems are raw and presented without any sugar-coating. The book starts with a brilliant opening piece that grips the readers from the get-go.

Struggles of letting things go

Moving on is generally difficult, but this is amplified when cherished objects are concerned. I am, of course, talking about the things that have shaped our childhood/past but can no longer be kept for sentiment's sake. Here are some of the things whose losses have left me with unresolved abandonment issues.

Honest ads of fast food places

If there is one thing that we have learnt from the booming restaurant business, it is that probably there is nothing we love more than food. And in order to cater to our insatiable hunger, new food places open up every day. What if these restaurants made honest ads about themselves?

Farewell Francis of the Filth

On the 29th of December of 2017, George Miller tweeted out to his fans that he would no longer be continuing his activities on YouTube as Filthy Frank and would be shifting all of his focus into his music.

A brief introduction to trip-hop/lo-fi by Joji

Frankly speaking, I wasn't familiar with the notorious Filthy Frank and his array of personality disorders until I listened to this EP after a friend suggested it. So my judgment was not clouded by the insane fandom of his comedic career. Which I think is great because this EP deserves a complete focus on the new and very fresh artist Joji.

The Transparent House Guest

When Ms. Sherbet Clearwater moved into her new one-bedroom apartment in the city, she didn't exactly expect to find a rude teenage ghost in the closet. Nothing about this apartment stuck out as a red flag but now she is on the verge of a heart attack. She is looking at the ashen face of someone who probably once was a fifteen year old living person. She is regretting every decision that has led up to her moving in here.

Question leaks: a rot in the core

I write from my experience of being part of the most recent batch of HSC graduates, and being familiar with people a couple of years either side of my own age, question leaks isn't a new phenomena. It has been there as a thorn at the side of students for at least 5 years (in its current form of online leakage), but has taken an abnormally long time to find the public spotlight it merits.

Black Book

There it is again —the pitch black void that I am so accustomed to. How many times has it been? Sixty? Six hundred? I can't remember. But this all feels so familiar, almost like a part of my soul that's been with me since I was born. I could never tell what happened prior to this, only flashes of a wrecked boat on a stray rock and a violent storm. I can only imagine I was traversing the vast expanse of water only to be shipwrecked. The muffled thunder roars above me. The storm is raging on.

Ubisoft's new direction and what it means for gamers

In the past two decades or so, Ubisoft had kept gamers (and themselves) very busy by releasing at least one AAA single-player title every year – namely, entries from the Prince of Persia, Assassin's Creed and the Tom Clancy franchises. In the earlier days, they did a very good job of juggling the workload as most of their games would be acclaimed by gamers and critics alike.

WHAT IS YOUTH?

Youth is the favourite target group of marketers nowadays thanks to the startup boom and over a half of the population being in that TG. Big brands have realised this, and are pushing into the digital sphere to reach out to the youth. Recently, I saw a post from one of the leading youth brands on Facebook that spent quite a few words describing what “SWAG” means. Unfortunately, 2012 called and wants its “word of

Should you really “read” audiobooks?

I am not proud of it, but like most literary critics, I had never equated audiobooks to reading an actual book. I had always been sceptic about the notion of listening to a book and rolled my eyes every time someone claimed to have “read” a book via a voice narration.

SchoolSmart Minute Challenge, a game show for kids, started with a vision to curb children's addiction to gadgets through active participation in intellectual & physical challenges. In week 13, Cardiff International took on Turkish Hope in the first semi-final round. Round one began with pyramid crashing and Turkish Hope “broke-it-down” in record time for the win. That was it for Turkish Hope as Cardiff

The Sims - Bangladeshi Edition

Have you ever felt the need to feel omnipotent? Well, then you must have enjoyed or still enjoy (it's okay, we don't judge) the invincibility stature while playing this life simulation game, “The Sims”. I still remember the sheer power I used to feel surging through my veins as I controlled the lives of my Sims, influenced their moods, or drowned them in the pool because why not. While taking my final exam the other day, a brilliant question struck me. What if this game was set in Bangladesh?
