No sanctions for Ronaldo after alleged gesture, reports say
Things may not be going exactly according to plan for Cristiano Ronaldo at Saudi Arabia's Al-Nassr. This time Ronaldo earned the ire of the crowd after his side's 2-0 loss to Al-Hilal.
When home supporters chanted Lionel Messi's name from the stand to rile up Ronaldo, the former Real Madrid star allegedly made an obscene gesture.
The obscene gesture appears to have caused widespread offence throughout the country, not least due to it coming during the holy month of Ramadan, and a trend has emerged online seeking to oust Ronaldo under the title 'Expelling the fan abuser', a goal.com report suggests.
On more than one occasion this season, Ronaldo was left visibly angered as away fans chanted "Messi, Messi!" as he led his new team onto the pitch as captain or walked into the tunnel at full-time.
Ronaldo however will not face sanctions according to reports. The Disciplinary and Ethics Committee of the Saudi Football Association has looked into the incident and delivered its verdict, with it determined that no further action is required, according to goal.com.
His club had previously played down the incident, attributing it instead to a 'sensitive' injury. The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was also fortunate to escape with just a yellow card during the match after delivering a WWE-style tackle on a rival.
