Rebuilding the Nation's Backbone
It is certainly positive that the government is trying to recover from the loss in our education system caused by political violence. But since there is no visible political solution, chances are there that the coming months might be worse for our students. It has been proposed many a times to ban violent political activities like hartals but there is no sign that the government wants to do it. I think the civil society should come forward and take legal steps so that the striking parties become compelled to keep the educational institutions out of their political activities.

Bangladesh has become the land of cold cases. We have been seeing murders and forced disappearances but we don't see any justice. Thanks for publishing the follow up story on Aminul's murder which was overshadowed by so many similar cases occurring one after another. The struggle of Husne Ara, Aminul's widow, is really heart breaking. If the writer posted the contact address of Husne Ara at the end of the article, perhaps many people would come forward to help her.

I would like to thank Anika Hossain for her series of articles on the plight of Bihari camp dwellers. Her well written articles have taken me to the most neglected part of Dhaka where I discovered how we, the Dhakaites, have been oppressing these poor people for decades. The latest article reveals that many of these Biharis are skilled craftsmen, technicians and workers. Instead of alienating them, we should assimilate them into our society and utilize their potential.
