Akij Group has entered Bangladesh’s commercial helicopter market through its subsidiary Akij Aviation Limited, launching charter operations with three helicopters.

Akij Glass Industries, a concern of the group, has invested around Tk 2,200 crore to set up a factory on over 125 acres of land in Madhabpur upazila of Habiganj, some 114 kilometres east of capital Dhaka.

Japan Tobacco Inc., one of the five largest tobacco companies in the world, yesterday acquired Akij Group's tobacco business for $1.47 billion (about Tk 12,430 crore), in what would be the biggest ever single foreign direct investment in Bangladesh.
