Businesses yesterday demanded a better investment climate and adequate energy supplies for industries as the government seeks to raise annual exports to $100 billion by 2030 from $48 billion in the immediate past fiscal year.

Exports decreased by 1.06% to $5.3 billion

Although Bangladesh posted a higher export growth in the just-concluded fiscal year on the back of garments and some non-traditional items, four major sectors suffered a fall, raising concerns for the economy and the employment sector. 

The country’s merchandise export earnings grew by 10.55 percent year-on-year to $40.53 billion in the immediate past fiscal year riding on a high volume of garment shipment in a favourable external business environment.
