Apple launches AirPods Max 2
Apple has quietly announced the release of its latest over-ear headphones, the AirPods Max 2 on March 16.
The new model is powered by Apple’s H2 chip, which enables features such as adaptive audio, conversation awareness, voice isolation and live translation. The company said the device is also designed to support content creators, including podcasters and musicians, through enhancements such as studio-quality audio recording and remote camera controls.
According to Apple, the updated active noise cancellation system is up to 1.5 times more effective than the previous generation. The headphones support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio when connected via a USB-C cable.
The device introduces several adaptive features like automatic balancing between noise cancellation and transparency based on the user’s environment, and a function that lowers playback volume when the user begins speaking. The live translation feature, powered by Apple’s AI systems, is designed to facilitate in-person communication across languages.
The headphones will be available to order from March 25 in a range of colours, including midnight, starlight, orange, purple and blue, with wider availability expected early next month. The starting price of Apple AirPods Max 2 has been set at $549.
