This week the Star interviewed one of the most eminent architects of Bangladesh, Masudur Rahman Khan. Khan has designed some of the most significant and picturesque structures such as the International Mother Language Institute building, Bangladesh Computer Council building and the Mausoleum Complex of former President Ziaur Rahman. He is also chasing his dream of designing the tallest structure of Bangladesh. Khan is famous for the renovation and remodelling projects of many significant structures such as the Banganbandhu Stadium and Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium etc. As an architect, Khan has always been dreaming of developing Dhaka as a well-planned and architecturally perfect city.

Childhood Dream
I have always dreamt of pursuing an unconventional but creative profession. After completing HSC I decided that architecture would be perfect for me.

Your Mentor
I always remember my senior colleague architect Kazi Golam Nasir and architect Mustafa Khalid Palash for their inspirational contribution during my academic and professional life.

The Qualities you need to be an Architect
Imagination and innovation are the most important qualities needed to become a successful architect.

Area Specialisation
Throughout my career I have completed a lot of renovation, alternation and addition projects. I think I am more experienced in this particular sector.

One Thing you would like to Change in Dhaka
I would like to decentralise Dhaka's concentrated population. Only if we can relocate at least the garment industries from Dhaka half of its population problem can be solved.

What You Love to Design
I love to design public spaces such as art galleries, auditoriums, and museums, etc where the masses will be benefitted.
