50-year jail for indifference to accident victim
Chante Mallard, 27, accidently struck Gregory Glenn Biggs as he walked on a Fort Worth freeway in October 2001.
Instead of seeking help, she drove home, hid her car in her garage and left him bleeding and moaning for help on her broken windshield.
She later helped two friends dump Biggs' lifeless body in a park, where it was found the next day, and burned one of her car seats, in an effort to hide the crime.
The former nurse's aide said she had been drinking, smoking marijuana and taking Ecstasy the night she hit Biggs, a 37-year-old former bricklayer.
She was convicted of the crime Thursday and sentenced Friday after a jury of seven men and five women deliberated for about two and a half hours.
