'Target murder' can not be stopped, top police official says
Of these, 16 were killed in July, 15 in August and three this month till yesterday.
Victims of these murders include politicians, policemen, Union Parishad chairmen and outlaws.
In the latest political killing, Khulna city Awami League leader Kamrul Islam Kutu was murdered in a bomb attack on AL office on Saturday.
Arms and bombs were used in the murders committed even during the Operation Spider Web, wound up last month as it virtually failed to curb crimes.
Most of killers and their godfathers are yet to be caught, creating a sense of insecurity among the people.
On September 4, another AL leader of Batiaghata, Mir Salam, was killed.
On September 3, a 'listed criminal' Shagor-- was killed at Labounchora under Khulna thana.
The 16 murders in July include those of SI Shamsul Huq and Havilder Abu Bakar of Rupsha thana (killed on July 3), Alamgir and Shajahan of Rupsha and Batiaghate (killed on July 4), Abul Khair Molla of Rupsha (killed on July 5) and UP chairman Jahan Ali of Batiaghata (killed on July 6).
Those murdered in August include City AL leaders Manjurul Imam and Advocate Bijon Bihari Mondol (killed on August 25), alleged outlaws Abdul Majid, Abdullah, Azizul, Dabir, Bubu Shaikh and 'listed criminal' Johny.
When asked, a top police official said it is not possible for police to stop 'target murder' unless advance information is received.
Security measures have been stepped up in Khulna city, caught with unusual panic since August 25 murder of AL leader Manzurul Imam.
Teams of riot police wearing bullet proof jacket have been posted in front of AL, BNP and Jamaat-e-Islami offices and also in other vulnerable areas including the industrial area.
Meanwhile state-controlled BSS news agency quoted Khulna Metropolitan Police Commissioner Bazlur Rahman as saying that the killers adopted similar method of hurling bombs in six incidents in the last sox months. All these incidents took place in Khulna thana.
