9 killed, 36 hurt in road mishaps in Mymensingh, Dinajpur

Nine people were killed and 36 injured in road accidents in Mymansingh and Dinajpur on Sunday and the night before.

Our Mymensingh correspondent reported that two persons were killed and four injured in two separate road accidents in the district on Sunday.

An unidentified person died on the spot and four others were injured when a truck loaded with sand overturned at Shikarikanda in Sadar upazila on the Dhaka-Mymensingh highway.

The injured were sent to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital (MMCH).

In another accident in front of Trishal Upazila Health Complex, one Azizul Haque, 24, was crushed under the wheels of a Dhaka-bound bus on the same highway.

The bodies were sent to MMCH morgue for autopsy.

Our Gaibandha Correspondent reported that seven people were killed and 32 injured, ten of them critically, when a Dhaka-bound cattle loaded truck collided head on with a Dinajpur-bound minibus at Jalkamri on the Gobindaganj-Dinajpur highway Saturday night.

The vehicles were smashed, police said.

Only four of the dead were identified as bus driver Tara Mia, 28, of Dinajpur, Shawkat Ali, 60, of Gaibandha, Severdin Marandi, 30, of Ghoraghat and Abdur Rahim, 65, of Dinajpur.

The injured were taken to Dinajpur and Rangpur medical college hospitals. Three cows were also killed in the accident.

Police said the truck had only one light when it hit the minibus.

A case was filed with Birampur thana.
