Star National Desk
Seven people died from diarrhoea and over 150 were attacked with the disease in Nilphamari and Rangpur districts in the last three days.

The two districts were the worst affected during the recent flood.

Our Nilphamari correspondent reported that six people died and over 100 were attacked as diarrhoea broke out in the rural areas of Dimla and Jaldhaka upazilas.

Of them, four died in Dimla. They are Kaltu Mia, 30, of Dohelpara, Aminur Rahman, 23, of Niz Sundar Khata, Rezaul Alam, 9, of Khalisha Chapani and Shiuli Akhtar, 4, of Gyabari, according to Herombo Kumar Roy, the lone doctor at Dimla Upazila Health Complex.

Nine more people are undergoing treatment at the health complex, he said.

The dead in Jaldhaka upazila are Dulal, 30, of Dohelpara village and Sadeka Begum, 4, of Harish Chandrapur village.

He told this correspondent that there was scarcity of medicine and saline at the hospital.

He said the disease broke out as the flood-affected people are taking unwholesome food and impure water.

Our Rangpur Correspondent reported that one person died of diarrhoea and at lest 50 have been attacked with the disease in Gangachara upazila, worst affected by the recent flood.

The dead is Monika Begum, 35, of Gajanta union.

So far, 25 patients have been admitted to the upazila health complex.

Upazila health officials said the disease has broken out in remote shoal areas of Teesta river. Adequate steps have been taken to control the situation.

Sources at the Civil Surgeon's office said medical teams are working in the affected areas and supplying medicines, oral saline and water purifying tablets.

But unofficial sources claimed that these life-saving articles are in short supply in those areas.
