Hartal observed at Baniachang
Alleged overbilling by REB protested
An eight-hour hartal was observed at Baniachang upazila headquarter on Sunday protesting alleged irregularities and over-billing by Palli Bidyut Samity (rural electrification society) officials.
During the hartal, a procession was brought out and a rally held protesting alleged realisation of 'excess bills' from subscribers.
Local political leaders, students, businessmen and villagers joined the procession.
Ilyas Miah, Barobazar Bayb-oshayee Samity President, presided over the rally, addressed by, among others, Upazila BNP President Azizur Rahman, Upazila BNP Secretary and UP chairman Waris Uddin Khan, Upazila AL Secretary and UP Chairman Iqbal Hossain Khan, upazila Jamat Amir Moulana Abdur Razzaque Khan and UP Chairman Mohammad Ali Momin.
They also called upon the subscribers to stop payment of electricity bills till the alleged irregularities are removed.
