Wild elephants kill 3 in 6 days in Rangamati

Wild elephants trampled two persons to death in Baghaichhori and Longdu upazila in separate incidents on Saturday and in the early hours of Monday.

Another woman was killed on September 3 in Longdu.

On Monday, at about 1:30 am, an elephant swooped on Rajnagar village under Longdu upazila. Villagers ran for safety. In the melee, Aklima Khatun, 12, was trample to death on the spot.

The villagers informed the BDR camp. BDR personnel gunned down the elephant in early morning, BDR sources said.

On Saturday, an elderly tribesman -- Nagara Chakma, 62 -- was trampled to death by wild elephants at Rupkary area under Baghaichhori upazila of the district.

He came under the attack when he went to the forest in search of his cows at around 7 pm, police said.

On September 3, Monwara Begum, 60, was trampled to death by wild elephants at Rasulpur village under Longdu upazila. Two others Abdullah, 5 and Muminullah -- were injured seriously in the attack. They are being treated at Rabeta Al Islami Hospital in Longdu.
