Procession, rally for proper probe, trial of 'killers'

A rally was held and a mourning procession brought out in the town on Sunday demanding proper investigation into the death of housewife Aan Karobi Adhikari Tia and punishment to the persons responsible.

Mystery shrouds Tia's death on August 29. Her parents are claiming that she was killed at her husband's house while her husband's family is saying that the death was from injuries she suffered when the stove burst while she was boiling milk.

Sunday's programmes were joined by a section of the elite in the town, professionals and NGO workers. These were organised by Sacheton Nagorik, a newly formed citizen's body.

The rally was addressed by CPB (Communist Party of Bangladesh) leader Hafiz Ferdous Swapon, Bangladesh Medical Association (BMA) leader Dr Zakiul Islam Faruki, Lalmonrihat Press Club General Secretary AKM Mainul Haque, Akter Ali Mandol and advocate Safura Begum Rumi.

They demanded arrest of Tia's husband Shahed Rahman alias Pavel and her mother-in-law Rawshan Ara Rahmat. Both are absconding since filing of a case on Thursday by Tia's mother.

The speakers urged the district administration and police to see that the incident is probed impartially.

Addressing the rally, journalist Mainul Haque said a section of local newspapers and creating confusion over the incident by publishing incorrect news on it.
