Life halts for half an hour, human chains in Barisal

One of the many human chains formed in Barisal city on Sunday demanding the proposed Padma Bridge at Mawa.
Life came to halt for half an hour in the divisional city on Sunday. As the clock clicked 11am, sirens blared. All came out of homes and workplaces and formed numerous human chains on roads demanding the proposed Padma Bridge at Mawa.

It was an unprecedented scene as men and women of all classes, ages and political opinions, joined by leaders of all political parties, participated in the human chains. Not a single street was seen without human chain.

The program was organised by a citizens' committee for implementation of Padma Bridge at Mawa.

The political leaders addressed the people during the demonstration in different areas of the city. They included Ebaidul Huq Chan (BCCI president), Khan Bhulu of Awami League, Shahayahan Khat of Islami Oikkya Jote, Zakir Hossain of Communist Party of Bnagladesh, Hiron Das Mithu of 11 Party Alliance, Nazrul Islam Razon of BNP, journalist Mintu Boshu and, cultural activist Syed Dulal.
