Hundreds join march, rally at Satkhira
After the rally, a memorandum addressed to the Prime Minister was handed over to the DC.
The programmes were organised by the Kobodak Protection Action Committee.
Hundreds of people of all walks of life joined the procession and paraded the main streets of the town carrying banners and chanting slogans to save the river, a lifeline for the two districts.
Anil Biswas, convenor, of the committee, presided over the rally. It was addressed by, among others, advocate Mostofa Lulfullah, Iqbal Kabir Zahid, Azizur Rahman, Prof Sabbir Hossain Prof Rafiqul Islam, Chairman Tapan Saha, Shahajahan Ali, Mofizul Hq and Ebadul Haq.
The speakers said once mighty Kobodak is now being silted, depriving he people of livelihood and creating pollution.
The river dies up in the winter affecting irrigation and floods Tala, Kalaroa, Assassumi and Sadar Upazilas in Satkhira district and Keshabpur, Manirampur and Jhhikargachcha upazilas is Jessore.
The speakers urged the government to re-excavate the river to save the people.
