Pirates hijack 5 fishing trawlers in Bhola

Police and local sources said the pirates also looted some shops.

When contacted, SI Zakir Hossain of the Tazumuddin thana in Bhola confirmed the incident. He said the pirates could not be chased as local people and fishermen refused to help police with a trawler.

The hijacked trawlers were taken to Boyar Char in Noakhali, other sources said.

No case was lodged in this connection as fishermen feared reprisal, police said.
