Rajshahi Divisional Speedy Trial Tribunal on Monday acquitted a leader of Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL), student front of opposition Awami League, in an arms case filed during the Operation Clean Heart.

Judge AFM Aminul Islam while delivering the judgement in a packed courtroom said, "I hardly found a faulty case like this in my life".

Mohammad Nasim, general secretary of Shirajganj district unit of BCL, was arrested by the army-led joint forces at Sirajganj town on November 1 last year.

In the case filed against Nasim with Shirajganj Sadar thana on November 12, police said that joint forces recovered two airguns, two sharp weapons and one bullet from his house.

Police also showed accused Nasim a fugitive.

But police had arrested Nasim earlier on September 25 the same year under Section 54. He was released.

Nasim was also detained on October 15 last year. A High Court Bench on November 27 cancelled the detention order.

The tribunal examined nine witnesses in the case.

The case was shifted to Rajshahi Speedy Trial Tribunal from Shirajganj Special Tribunal following a home ministry order.
