Three jailed in Barisal for abduction, rape
Three persons were sentenced to 14 years' rigorous imprisonment (RI) by the Tribunal for Prevention of Woman and Child Repression, Barisal on Monday on charge of abduction and rape.
Each of them will have to pay a fine of 10,000 taka, in default, to suffer RI for six months more.
The convicted are: Sirajul Haque Suman,30, Jahirul Islam Rimon,28, and Shohel Gazi,31.
The convicts abducted a 14-year-old girl student of class nine of Hizaltala High School in Barisal Sadar upazila on April 21 in 2001 while she was on way to school. She was compelled to stay at different places in Barisal and Pirojpur and was raped by Sirajul Haque. Police recovered her on May 29 from Kaliganj village in Bakerganj upazila.
Tribunal Judge Nur-ul-Haque examined 17 witnesses before pronouncing the judgement.
