Power supply to Gabkhan Bridge snapped
Jhalakati Power Development Board (PDB)snapped power due to non-payment of arrear electric bill amounting to 18 lakh taka. The Roads and Highways Department is responsible for its maintenance.
An amount of 20,000 taka was sanctioned to pay the bill.
PDB and RHD sources said the government issued an order to disconnect the electric line since 2002. According to the order, Jhalakati PDB cut off the line.
Shamsuddin Khan, head assistant of Jhalakati RHD said, there Were 64 sodium lights on the bridge. Staff for toll collection and transport workers said the bridge became a death trap.
