Strong local govts for good governance stressed
Participant chairmen and members of union parishads (UPs) in Narayanganj at a workshop in the town on Monday stressed on strengthening local government bodies to ensure good governance in the country.
The daylong workshop on 'Local Government and Democracy', was held at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium which was organised by Gram Bikash Shohayak Shangstha (GBSS), a development organisation, in collaboration with Local Government Initiative (LGI), Assistance for Rural Development (ARD) and USAID.
M Nuruzzaman Khan, chairman of Kayetpara Union Parishad, Rupganj chaired the meeting while Kajal Chatterjee, senior programme manager of LGI ARD was chief guest.
Golam Sarwar, president of executive committee of National Union Parishad Member Forum (NUPMF), member of the committee Sayed Shakawat Hosain Selim, executive director of GBSS Masuda Farouk Ratna and chairman of Fatullah Union Parishad M Noor Hossain were also present.
