7 get life in Babuganj triple murder

Seven alleged dacoits were given life term yesterday for murdering three of their gang members in Babuganj in the district in 2002.

Abdul Motin Mia, Judge of the Speedy Trial Tribunal, delivered the verdict. Nine others accused in the case were acquitted.

The seven Abed Ali, Ali Akbar, Kawl Howlader, Delwar Hossain, Shajahan Khan (abosconding), Swarup Ali and Pintu (abosconding). Shajahan Khan and Pintu are absconding.

Those killed were Sohrab, 35, Salam, 42 and Abdul Khalek, 45.

According to the prosecution story, the three were murdered and their heads separated following a conflict at a preparatory meeting of the dacoits, held at North Bhuterdia on the night of June 6, 2002. The beheaded bodies were later recovered by police.

Babuganj police filed a case. After investigation, police Inspector Sulal Chandra Pal submitted charge sheet against 16 persons on December 1, 2002.

All gang members were from Bakerganj upazila in the district.

Twenty witnesses were examined during the trial.
