'Give khas land to landless people'

He appealed it to the PM while reading a written statement at a press conference at Satkhira Reporters' Club.

He reminded the PM about her promise she gave at a big public meeting at Delisharar football ground on August 18 in 1998. During her speech she promised, if BNP comes to power, she would fulfill all the demands of landless people.

The landless leader also demanded arrest and punishment to land grabbers. "Otherwise the landless people will launch a tougher agitation to realise their 8-point demands" he said.

Influentials and land grabbers are hatching a conspiracy to evict 1,375 landless families living on 'khas' land in the district for the last 20 to 30 years, he complained.

'Attack on landless people and snatching of their valuables by land grabbers and their hired musclemen are common phenomena'.

While narrating the incidents, he said l and grabbers and their hoodlums attacked 77 landless families in the Galgheshia shoals in Kaligonj upazila on May 1. They were staying there for the last 20 years, he said in the press statement. 'Hoodlums led by Bishnupur Union Parishad (UP) chairman Mizanur Rahman, UP member Ashraf Ali and Moslem Ali attacked landless people sustaining 12 of them including women and children injured,' he disclosed. 'They also fell down and took away over 300 Kewra timber worth 10 lakh taka and they are out to grab a cremation ground of Hindus', he alleged.
