Held 'outlaws' produced in court as 'robbers'

Local people allege bribe-taking by Pangsha police

Rajbari police, with the help of local people, arrested six alleged outlaws with arms in Pangsha on Saturday but produced them to court as 'robbers'.

This created anger among local people, who alleged that police branded the 'outlaws' as 'robbers' after taking bribe. All the arrested persons are members of an outlawed party and involved in various crime in the area, they alleged. Pangsha thana police raided a house in Khamarbari area in the town when about 20 'outlaws' were holding a secret meeting there.

Sensing police presence, they tried to escape but local people chased and caught six of them. Later police arrested them. Police recovered one Shutter Gun and some weapons from them. They are Mafiz, 25, Yunus, 22, Reaz, 22, Momin, 30, Zia, 24, Razzak, 30, all from Ratandia village in Pangsha upazila. When contacted, the duty officer at Pangsha thana told this correspondent over telephone that he did not know any thing about the incident as the arrest was made by OC Yunus Ali.
