New Indian govt dumps Women's Reservation Bill

The UPA government's agenda of legislative business during the Budget session of Parliament beginning today has dumped the much talked about Women's Reservation Bill that figures prominently in the common minimum programme of the government.

However, the government has included in its legislative business a Bill that seeks to accord Allahabad University the status of a Central University the Bill that Dr Murli Manohar Joshi tried to introduce in the Rajya Sabha on its last working day in January this year before the dissolution of the Lok Sabha, but was prevented from doing so by the then opposition, including the Congress.
