Pirates abduct 40 fishermen from Dublar Char

The captors sent a cell phone message yesterday to the owner of FB Sadek, one of the three trawlers, demanding a ransom of Tk 6 lakh for release of its driver Altaf and some fishermen in the "first phase", according to sources in Patharghata. All the hostages have been kept in deep forest, the message said.

The three trawlers are from Patharghata in Barguna district, the sources said.

When contacted yesterday afternoon, Pathorghata police confirmed the incident but said a case was yet to be filed.
