People staged a demonstration in Katlagari in Shailakupa on Monday demanding continued presence of joint forces in the outlaw-infested area.

The joint forces team was withdrawn from there Monday morning.

As the news spread, about 10,000 people from nearby areas thronged the camp and laid a siege to it demanding continuation of the camp, police and local people said.

They however left disappointed in the evening without any assurance.

Local people said law and order improved significantly after setting up of the camp at Katlagari eight months ago. Crimes in the area will increase now following withdrawal of the camp, they said.
