Seized trawler sinks, coast guard missing
A Cost Guard member is missing as a trawler seized with alleged illegal logs sank in Kacha river at Darul Huda near Vandaria in Pirojpur district while it was being towed to Mongla on Tuesday.
A Navy team led by Lt. Commander Nizamuddin was searching the area but could not rescue the missing man, official sources here said yesterday.
Coast Guard had seized the trawler on the Baleswar river near Zia Nagar police station in Pirojpur at about 3 pm on Tuesday.
Three Coast Guard personnel-- Saifuddin, Liton and Mamtaz--on board a vessel were toeing the trawler towards Mongla port. The trawler sank in turbulent waters when it reached Darul Huda.
Liton, Mamtaz and trawler crew Kamal were saved by boatmen.
But Saifuddin is missing with an SMG and 90 bullets.
The Coast Guard has lodged a GD with Zia Nagar police station.
