Attempt to storm army camp foiled in Kashmir

Five militants, including an area commander of Pakistan-based Lashker-e-Taiba (LeT), and a security jawan were killed and four injured in an encounter in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir where troops also foiled an attempt by insurgents to storm an Army camp since Friday evening, official sources said.

Four enfiltrating militants were killed in Chaktroo area of Mandi sector during an encounter which started around noon on Friday and continued till evening, the sources said, adding one of the militants after receiving bullet wounds had fallen into a stream and died.

Three jawans, a special police officer and one civilian were injured in the encounter. One jawan later succumbed to his injuries, while the condition of civilian Manzoor Ahmed was stated to be critical, the sources said.

Another militants was killed on Saturday morning in the area, they said. Slain terrorists have been identified as Abu Shaheen, LeT area commander for Poonch and resident of Karachi, Mohammad Razak and Mohammad Iqbal - both local terrorists.
