UP chairman sued for extortion

A Union Parishad chairman and ruling party leader has been sued for extortion.

Abdul Aziz of Jugi Khali village in Kalaroa upazila filed a case with Kalaroa thana against Jugi Khali Union Parishad Chairman and Kalaroa thana BNP vice-president Rabiul Islam, police said.

According to the FIR, a group of miscreants led by Rabiul Islam went to the house of Abdul Aziz on Saturday night and demanded a toll of Tk 20,000. They also threatened him to pay the amount on Sunday.

On Sunday, Rabiul sent one Ziad Ali to Aziz to collect the money. But Aziz refused to pay.

In the evening, Rabiul called Aziz to Jugi Khali Bazar. As he reached there, the UP chairman and some others beat him.

They also beat Aziz's his brother Abdul Mannan, Abdul Latif and some others who tried to rescue him. Abdul Aziz was taken to Kalaroa hospital in a serious condition.

Mentionably, a leader of outlawed Purbo Banglar Communist Party--Abdul Gaffar-- was arrested from Rabiul's house on April 17.
