BNP man elected as AL man 'barred' from nomination filing
Nine ward commissioners and three candidates in women's reserve seats have also been declared elected uncontested in the pourasabha.
It is alleged that nomination papers of Awami League-backed incumbent chairman of Daulat Khan pourasabha Mamunur Rashid and some other AL supported ward commissioner candidates were snatched by unidentified miscreants and they were kept hostage on the last day od nomination filing. They could not file nominations.
Election of the rest ward commissioners will be held on September 9 along with Kalapara municipality in Patuakhali district.
Election in Charfession and Borhanauddin municipalities will be held on September 8.
Twelve candidates will be contesting for posts of chairmen, 70 for ward commissioner and 29 for women's reserved seats in the three other municipalities, EC sources said.
In Charfession, five candidates including Amirul Islam Mintiz (Four Party), present chairman Mannan Howlader (AL), Maksudur Rahman ( BJP), Sirajul Islam Shelly (Bikalpa Dhara) and Abdul Halim Maltia (independent) are contesting for the post of chairman. Twenty-nine candidates are vying for nine ward commissioner seats and 11 women for three reserved seats.
Saidur Rahman Milon (Four Party Alliance), SM Kalimullah, Rashed Momin Bhuiya, Zakir Hossain and Abdullah Al Mamun Shamim are contesting for the post of chairman in Borhanuddin municipality.
Twenty-two candidates are in the eace for nine ward commissioner posts and nine women for three reserved seats in Borhanuddin.
In Kalapara, present pourasabha chairman and Four Party Alliance candidate Hazi Humaun Kabir and Didar Ahmed Masum of AL are contesting for the post of chairman.
Besides, there are 18 candidates for nine ward commissioner posts and nine women for three reserved seats in the municipality.
