Abducted girl returns home
The victim is Rehena, 13, daughter of Noor Mohammed of Munjitpour.
She returned to Kalaroa from Kolkata through Sultanpur border on Thursday following prompt action of the NGO, Human Rights Development Project (HRDP).
Noor Nahar, 19, of Fingri village in Sadar Upazila abducted Rehena on August 9 in 2002. She sold her to a gang of traffickers at Bashirhat, India, according to HRDP General Secretary Prof Pabitra Mohon Das. They tried to sell her to a brothel at Sona Gachhi in Kolkata but failed because of her tender age. In a bid to save themselves, they handed over her to the authorities of Sukanya Homes, a home for distressed women at Salt Lake in Kolkata.
HRDP came forward to rescue the victim following publication of a story on The Satkhira Chitra on August 21.
