Flash flood in Gaibandha

With sudden swelling of the Brahmaputra following onrush of water from across the border, about 5,000 hectares of Aman land have been inundated in Gaibandha Sadar, Sunderganj, Fulchari and Saghata upazilas.

The affected unions are Fazlupur, Arendabari, Fulchari, Gajaria Kanchipara, Uria, Kholahati, Moller Char, Gideri and Kamrjani.

As the the water level of the river continued to rise yesterday, erosion took an alarming turn in Gaibandha Sadar, Fulchari and Shaghata along western bank of the river, displacing about 500 families.
