Ruling, opposition parties stage programmes peacefully

This was part of countrywide opposition progarmme demanding resignation of the government.

The rally was addressed by, among others Awami Mahila League President Nina Rahman, District Awami League President Golam Mohiuddin, secretary Gazi Kamrul Huda Selim, JSD-Inu central committee Joint Secretary Iqubal Hossain Khan, its district unit organising secretary Aslam Khan Babu, Juba League Secretary AFM Sultanul Azam Khan, Chhatra League President Mahbubur Rahman, Jatiya Mohila Jote Joint Convenor Monju Goswami and Jatiya Juba Front Convenor Aminul Islam Kohinur.

The massive procession terminated in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office, where a rally was held.

Manikganj district unit AL President Golam Mohiuddin presided over the rally.

The speakers said the government should step down as it failed to ensure security of people's life and property.

Crimes increased in the country as the ruling parties are patronising criminals and religious extremists, they alleged.

Earliar, Jatiyatabadi Juba Dal (JJD), youth wing of ruling BNP, brought out a procession and held a rally in the town demanding arrest and punishment of the persons responsible for August 21 grenade attack on an AL rally in Dhaka.

The rally was held in front of the Deputy Commissioner's office.

Manikganj JJD President Motaleb Hossain presided over the rally, also addressed by, among others, BNP leaders Masudul Kamrul Haque Masud, Golam Moliar Khan Shepar, Ataur Rahman Ata and JJD leaders S A Zinnah Kabir, SMM Iqbal Hossain, Kazi Mastak Hossain Dipu and Riaz Mahmud Harej.

They said Awami League is creating panic among people by bomb attacks.
