VGF rice distribution begins in Nilphamari

The distribution has been started earlier this year to avert 'monga', (a pre-harvest near famine situation because of lack of work) officials said.

Under supervision of army, a total of one lakh 28 thousand 5 hundred people in 60 unions and four municipalities are getting 10 kgs rice each per month, official sources said.

The distribution will take four days. The second term distribution will start after a few days' interval, they said.

On an average, 2000 cards were sanctioned for each union.

But 1700 and 1800 cards were given in Chhatnai and Gayabari unions respectively, Union Parishad members there alleged. They said 500 cards were diverted elsewhere under the influence of local ruling party leaders, they claimed.

Local people in many areas this correspondent talked to said, unlike in previous years, the distribution is of rice is fair this year. It was gathered that action was taken against local UP leaders at some places for their alleged irregularity and corruption in distribution.
