'Failed govt should resign'
This was part of a countrywide opposition programme. Former lawmaker Monsur Ahmed president over the rally, addressed by, among others, Nazrul Islam, Abu Ahmed, Sheikh Anu, Nasim Moina, Sheikh Shahid Uddin, Sheikh Nurul Haq, Syed Firoz Kamal, SM Shawkat Hossain, Abdul Mannan, Shahadat Hossain, Mahmud Ali Suman an dMonjur Hossain.
The speakers said the BNP led Four Party Alliance government has failed to ensure security of people's life and property.
They demanded resignation of the government as it failed to unearth clues to the August 21 grenade attack on the AL rally in Dhaka and curb crimes.
The ruling parties are patronising fundamentalists and terrorists who are committing crimes, they said and called upon the people to launch mass movement to unseat the government.
The processionists paraded the main streets of the town.
On Monday, six student bodies aligned with opposition parties held a joint rally in the town marking the 11th death anniversary of Chhatra Moitree leader Zubayer Hossain Chowdhury Rimu, murdered allegedly by activists of Islamai Chhatra Shibir.
Held at the Shahid Minar, the rally was addressed by, among others, AL-backed Chhatra League central president Liakat Shikder, Chhatra Moitree president Rafiqul Islam, JSD-backed Chhatra League president Shariful Kabir Swapan and Chhatra Dhara president Mahfuz Akram.
