Kalapara people face acute drinking water crisis

Sources in Kalapara Pourasabha (municipality) said, the Department of Public Health Engineering (DPHE), Patuakhali took up the project in assistance with the DANIDA at a cost of Tk One crore 10 lakh five thousand 7 hundred and 39.
Work on the one lakh litre capacity overhead tank began at Mojaharuddn Biswas Collage ground. Messers Milon Enterprise got the work order as selected firm of the contractor from the DPHE on September 20, 2000. This project work was scheduled to be completed within one year, according to the project schedule. But its work was left abandoned after completion of one-third of the entire work due to unknown reason.
The work was stalled since September 19, 2001. The municipal authorities sent a letter to the DPHE authorities to take necessary action, but to no effect.
The Executive Engineer of the DPHE, Patuakhali, Moniruzzan told The Daily Star that they had selected another contractor for completion of the project work through a tender notice.
People urged the higher authorities to complete the project work without further delay.
