Teachers and students of Bhubonjoy Government High School in Jurachhari upazila on Monday observed a half-day strike demanding immediate appointment of teachers.

Sources in the District Education Office said six out of 11 posts of teachers are lying vacant in the school. An assistant teacher is working as the acting headmaster of the school.

Earlier, a daylong strike was also observed at the upazila headquarters demanding immediate recruitment of teachers.

During the strike period a memorandum was submitted to the Education Minister via UNO demanding fulfillment of their demand.

Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Saleh Ahmed told this correspondent over telephone that he had sent the copies of the memo to the Education Minister and the Deputy Commissioner of Rangmati on Tuesday.

Only two out of about 100 students passed the SSC (Secondary School Certificate) examination this year, he said.
