15 chargesheeted in Barisal medicine loot case

Police have chargesheeted 15 people in the case for looting Tk 20 lakh medicines from the district health department store.

Five of the accused including BNP leader Farid Khan has been dropped from the charge sheet.

Nil Utpal Dey, OC of Barisal BDB police, submitted the charge sheet to Sadar upazila Magistrate court on Thursday.

The 15 chargesheeted are Kanchan Ali Howlader, Sahabuddin Sikder, Babul Khan, Manir Hossain, Mozammel Hossain, Farid Hossain, Abdul Kuddus, Abul Kasem, Zakir alias Nana Zakir, Bazlur Rahman alias Bazlu, Barek Howlader, Taslim, Alam alias Alamin, Alamgir Sikder and Shayamol Gosh. The first five of them are in custody and the rest ten are absconding.

Names of those dropped from the charge sheet include Md Shamim, Md Tofael Sikder, Md Abul Kaium Molla and Md Shah Alam Biswas.

In charge sheet, the investigation officer said that the accused people looted medicines worth Tk 20 lakh from the store of the district health department at Amanatganj in Barisal city on June 18 this year.

Barisal Civil Surgeon Abdul Malek had filed a case on June 19 with Barisal Kotwali police. The case was transferred to DB.

Investigations revealed that the dacoits were members of a gang of inter-district gang and the looted medicines were sold in different markets in Dhaka, Gopalganj and other districts. Some of the dacoits were involved in the looting of medicine from Pabna Mental Hospital.
