Dhaka-Agartala bus service may resume this month

The repair work has already started.

Roads and Highways engineer Sirajul Haque told this correspondent that the bridge will be repaired within this month and all types of vehicles will be allowed on the road after the repair.

Movement of vehicles through the road remained suspended since August 18 as the bridge collapsed with a cement loaded truck.

Import-export activities through Akhaura customs office were also affected as the link to India remained snapped for about two months.

After recession of floodwater from Brahmanbaria, bus service between Dhaka and Agartala was restored on August 14 through Akhaura check post. But lying of trucks weighing over 10 tons were not allowed as the road became rugged.

The bridge collapsed on August 18 when cement loaded truck weighing about 15 tons was crossing it, defying the ban.

The condition of 16 kilometre portion of the road from Dharkhar to Akhaura check post is very bad.
