Omar Abdullah escapes assassination
The head of Indian Kashmir's main opposition party, Omar Abdullah, escaped assassination yesterday for the second time in a month when Muslim rebels tried to blow up his vehicle, police said.
They said four people were injured in the blast, one critically.
Abdullah leads the pro-India National Conference party and earlier served as India's junior foreign minister.
"It was a narrow miss for Omar Abdullah," said a police officer.
The bomb was detonated as Abdullah was driving to attend a prayer ceremony for former National Conference minister Safdar Ali Baig, gunned down by militants last Thursday.
Police said the bomb, buried in the road, blew up just ahead of his vehicle.
